NON-SUPERCHARGED VT V6 |

Our job was to supply and install our 1.9:1 High Ratio Roller Rocker arms. Again we incurred a car that had very bad tuning to begin with. The air/fuel ratios were all over the place, mainly lean. Although the "average Joe" wouldn't notice this, we really pick up on it as this gives us an indication of what's going on inside an engine. It really could have done with a tune, even before we started, but we liked the challange of starting behind the eight ball, so we still persisted with the rocker installation. It took around 1½ hours to complete the installation. We immediately put the car up on the dyno again to reveal the results of the rocker swap, before we did any engine tuning. It instantly gained 10rwkw, which again when converted equates to 13hp. That's 13hp, just from swapping the rockers on a naturally aspirated V6. (The gains are closer to 18hp when bolted to a S/C V6). Further enhancement via engine remapping yielded a further 6rwkw. That's a total improvement of 16rwkw that's over 20hp, which is quite substantial improvement for an atmospheric six!! With 131rwkw, convert that to horsepower and you've got over 170rwhp. To put that into perspective it's line ball with the standard Supercharged V6, and more than the VN 5.0 Litre V8 Commodore, not bad going for a V6 without assisted air induction. This vehicle went on the Motorplex to pull a very respectable 15.32 sec ET at 94mph, on par with a Supercharged V6 !! Very Impressive !! |
